Half a century of memories
2024 marks a milestone for Smiemans Projecten, as we celebrate half a century of developing beautiful projects at home and abroad. A great moment to look back and look forward!
International builder of commercial glass structures
Since our establishment in 1974, we have made an impressive journey to establish ourselves as a leading international builder of commercial glass structures. During this half century, we have proudly completed countless projects around the world, from Japan to America. We look forward to the next 50 years with the same passion and commitment.
Our history in brief
Our journey began with Joop Smiemans, who founded Smiemans 'All-in' Kas B.V. in 1974 with an innovative vision of building structures differently. From 1986, a conscious decision was made to focus on special glass constructions under the name Smiemans Projecten B.V. The move to the former fruit and vegetable auction in Kwintsheul in 1991, with its characteristic premises and expansion possibilities, marked a decisive chapter in our growth. In the same year, Allicon Aluminium Lichtconstructies was established as a subsidiary for curtain walls and canopies. In 2003, Jeroen Smiemans took over from his father Joop. EdenParks was established in 2010, driven by projects such as the impressive botanical greenhouses in London and Kuwait.
Diversity of our activities and the depth of our expertise
Now, 50 years later, we can look back with pride on an impressive range of achievements that reflect the diversity of our activities and the depth of our expertise. Our international projects demonstrate not only our technical capabilities, but also our commitment to sustainability and innovation. Whether garden centres, botanical gardens or special glass constructions, Smiemans Projecten has left a lasting mark on the world with exceptional projects.
High profile glass structures
We are proud of the number of projects we have completed internationally over the past 50 years. We built a unique arched pavilion for the famous Keukenhof in 1996. A concept the industry had never seen before. In 2002, we set a milestone by creating the world's largest solar panel roof for the Floriade. The Dutch pavilion for the 2015 World Expo in Milan is another example of our groundbreaking capabilities.
Innovative glass structures for all sectors
For a wide range of clients, we design and build glass structures for all sectors; from the Wildlands Adventure Zoo to the Ivy House restaurant, from the atrium for the VB office building to the knowledge and innovation centre for international horticulture: the World Horti Centre. This innovation centre was opened in 2018 by none other than our Queen Máxima. We are proud that several of our projects have been opened by a member of the Royal Family, as you can see in the timeline below.
